The Jacob Burns Film Center is housed in the historic Rome Theater, a 1925 landmark building that was once a thriving movie theater. A non-profit organization was founded to renovate and expand The Rome Theater, and to re-establish it as a cultural center focused on the cinematic arts. Located in central Westchester, an area with relatively few art-film theaters, the new facility provides an alternative to modern multiplexes and features foreign and independent films, revivals, festival releases as well as lectures, jazz concerts, educational programs and panel discussions.

Named after the philanthropist Jacob Burns, the new film center includes three theaters as well as an exhibition space, a library, and a cafe, and support spaces such as lobbies, concession areas, staff offices and projection rooms. The Spanish mission-style façade was restored to its original splendor as a testament to the town’s architectural and cultural history.

The efforts made to recreate the Rome Theater have resulted in the preservation of a landmark building and the addition of a cultural arts center to the Westchester area. Its presence has made a profound impact on the town of Pleasantville, drawing more people to the town, increasing the local businesses and contributing to the overall town aesthetic.

Collado Engineering provided complete mechanical and electrical consulting engineering services for the project.
