The Phase 2 Data Center MEP Upgrades included the addition of a 25-ton computer room air conditioning (CAC) unit and the addition of return air plenums on the existing CAC units with associated automatic dampers to draw the return air from the ceiling plenum.
The scope of the project also included the engineering of a dry cooler system and associated distribution piping, pumping, electrical power, etc. to provide a redundant heat rejection option to the existing closed-circuit coolers for the five (5) new CAC units and future CAC units. Dry coolers and pumps were located at grade on the west side of the building and piping routed below the raised floor. Valved and capped supply and return connections were provided as part of the design to accommodate future CAC units. The design provided for a redundant dry cooler (which will be used to serve the future CAC units) and associated pump.
Electrically operated motorized valves were provided on the existing six (6) Stulz CAC units in the Data Center and the CAC units located in the UPS Room to automatically transfer from the condenser water supply to the dry coolers. Monitoring and control of the new Data Center related equipment and the existing base building equipment was interfaced with the BMS system.
The Data Center is fully operational 24 hours per day and 7 days per week and remained operational during the upgrade period. Phasing of the scope of work was clearly defined on the Construction Documents and monitored during construction working closely with the Owner and the Contractor. The installation was completed without impacting the operation of the facility.
